David Grimstead Access to Fine Arts Instrument Drive and Refurbishment FundDo you have a dusty trumpet or neglected guitar that is hiding unused, lonely and sad in your basement?
You probably know about the impact that music can have on a life, but what about music as a powerful draw for young people from Calgary's most vulnerable families? A way to encourage kids to make better choices and see some potential in their future.
The extended Western Canada High School community is partnering with The Legacy Children's Foundation 'Gift of Music' Programs to launch the David Grimstead Access to Fine Arts Instrument Drive and Refurbishment Fund.
We want to help make music programs and instruments more accessible to all Alberta children.
Since 2006, Legacy's Gift of Music programs have provided music programming and instruments to financially challenged families and at risk children and youth. These musical experiences have proven to be life altering - Legacy boasts a success rate for keeping kids in school of about 80%!
This instrument drive initiative honors the contributions of David Grimstead, a recently retired Calgary Board of Education music teacher whose love of music, and determined efforts for all students to have access to quality music education and instruments touched many lives.
All gently used (or new!) instruments and/or cash donations to assist in their refurbishment through our many instrument repair partners will be gratefully accepted! Tax receipts will be given for cash donations and for the appraised value of instruments.
Students whose financial realities would not otherwise afford them the special gift of owning their own instrument will then have access to these instruments.
