Music program looks to change the tune for at-risk youth
Holiday crowd funding campaign aims to raise $50,000 for Legacy Children’s Foundation
- November 14, 2016
The Legacy Children’s Foundation has launched an exciting holiday crowd funding campaign to raise $50,000 for music programs that support at-risk youth in Calgary and other Alberta communities.
Going on twelve plus years, the Foundation’s Gift of Music program helps deserving youth ages 9 to 24 stay in school by providing long-term mentorship and music lessons. Students receive a gently-used instrument, participate in weekly lessons with instructors, and develop their musical talents and entrepreneurial skills, all while focusing on completing their education.
“Helping youth stay in school and out of trouble are our top priorities,” says Darryl Wernham, CEO of The Legacy Children’s Foundation. “Our one-of-a-kind program sees more than 80% of our high-risk youth graduate, and its continuation into the New Year is only possible with the help of our community.”
The Foundations Gift of Music holiday Indiegogo campaign aims to tap into the generosity of the holiday spirit to support 50 deserving youth remain in the program in 2017. Without this funding, the Foundation will be forced to scale back operations and leave many kids without mentors.
“The Gift of Music program contributes to the health and wellbeing of our most valuable resource... our children,” says Wernham.
The Foundation encourages caring individuals to rally friends, family, and colleagues to participate in the Indiegogo fundraiser and give the gift of music lessons, mentorship, and school success to deserving youth.
The campaign, which runs over the holidays from November 14, 2016 to January 12, 2017, can be viewed at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/give-the-gift-of-music-education/#/
